Data Engineer

November 2021 - Present

Within NAB’s Assisted eXperience Technologies (AXT) team, I contribute to the SoundWave squad, focusing on NAB’s Telephone Banking and Contact Centre operations. My responsibilities include optimizing customer interactions through enhanced self-service options and seamless routing to appropriate agents.

As a Data Engineer, I utilize Splunk to establish alerts, alarms, and dashboards for our Telephone Banking assets. To deliver and manage new features effectively, I collaborate closely with DevOps and developers across global locations, ensuring customers experience minimal disruption during service updates.

In alignment with NAB’s cloud migration strategy, I play a key role in decommissioning legacy on-premise systems, including Genesys Telephone Banking infrastructure, and facilitating a smooth transition to AWS.

I have met a lot of interesting people and had a good time here, and I have also made some achievements of my own! I have been crowned as the winner of 2022 NAB’s Expert coding competition, as well as being involved in some of NAB’s university career fairs and events.

In addition to my primary role, I serve as a Teaching Associate, instructing undergraduate students in Web Development with a focus on PHP and CakePHP frameworks.

Previously, I acted as a Technical Mentor for the Faculty of IT’s capstone project. In this role, I guided students in creating web solutions for Victorian clients, leveraging Wordpress or CakePHP. Additionally, I provided guidance on development best practices and business analysis, aiding students and clients in identifying pain points and crafting development plans.

My teaching experience includes the following units:

FIT5147: Information Visualisation and Exploration (data visualisation using Tableau, R, and D3.js)
FIT3047 - 3048: Industry Experience Project
FIT2104: Web-Database Interface (PHP-oriented)
FIT1050: Web Fundamentals (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)

Technical Architect/Analyst

June - November 2021

At Accenture, I contributed to the myWizard solution, a large-scale enterprise automation platform. Within myWizard’s STACK monitoring, I optimized the team’s Splunk environment, creating dashboards, refining searches, and resolving bugs to enhance service for global clients. Additionally, I developed Python and Shell scripting skills for deploying Splunk applications across Red Hat Linux and Windows Server 2012 environments.

Beyond technical work, I mentored new team members, ensuring seamless onboarding. While this role was brief, it offered significant exposure to technologies that directly benefit my current work.

As a full-time database developer for Turning Point, a collaboration between Eastern Health and Monash University, I spearheaded the redesign and development of their database architecture, migrating it from Access to Microsoft SQL Server. This transition involved analyzing requirements, stakeholder collaboration, and creating new data mapping standards to align with the legacy data warehouse model.

Additionally, I built analytics dashboards using Tableau, providing the research team with critical insights into patient behavior and ambulance response patterns.

Beyond my core database role, I leveraged my web development expertise to support the team with front-end updates and bug fixes. Web development remains a passion of mine, and I enjoy contributing my technical skills wherever possible.

Using PowerBI and DAX, we built dashboards offering valuable insights. I proactively communicated with stakeholders, performed deployments, and provided support outside of regular hours.

My passion for understanding all aspects of our application has made me a reliable resource for knowledge and queries within my team and broader office. I continuously seek opportunities to suggest improvements and optimize our processes, ensuring we deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest development standards.

At Traveldream, I contributed to a wide range of e-commerce projects, from minor responsiveness improvements to major features that directly boosted the company’s presence and sales. This experience significantly expanded my Laravel skillset.

My academic journey began as an international student at Monash University. Completing both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees provided me with a robust foundation in web development, data management, and project management, skills that continue to guide my professional path.

While my core technical expertise lies in development, the diverse coursework at Monash gave me a well-rounded IT perspective. Explorations in IT for business, mobile app development, governance, software, and data management ignited my passion for data engineering and cloud technologies.

Outside of academics, I was deeply involved in the Monash Vietnamese International Students’ Club for over four years. This experience helped me develop strong communication and leadership skills, as I coordinated cultural festivals, seminars, and support sessions for fellow Vietnamese international students at Monash.
